MCP

LinkCentral integrates with WordPress’ Abilities API and the official MCP Adapter, allowing compatible AI assistants to interact with your WordPress site through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Once connected, your AI assistant can search, create, update, and manage your short links, organize categories, and analyze link performance — all from a conversation.

For example, you could ask:

  • “Create a short link for our new Black Friday landing page, using the slug bf-2026, and add it to the Affiliates category.”
  • “Which of my links received the most clicks in the last 30 days?”
  • “Update go/summer-sale to point to the new Shopify URL and mark it as sponsored and nofollow.”
  • “Find every link with ‘amazon’ in the title or slug and list its short URL.”

And when you combine LinkCentral with other connected tools and capabilities, you can build even more powerful workflows:

  • “Draft a newsletter in my email tool, create tracked short links for every CTA, and add them to the copy.”
  • “Find this week’s top-performing LinkCentral links and post a performance summary to Slack or Discord.”
  • “Review today’s blog draft, suggest affiliate opportunities, create the short links, and insert them where they fit.”

How to connect LinkCentral to an AI assistant

To use LinkCentral with an AI assistant, install the official WordPress MCP Adapter on your site and connect it to an MCP-compatible client, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, or Claude Code.

The connection allows your AI client to access LinkCentral’s tools through your WordPress site, authenticated using an Application Password.

Important: You’ll need an MCP-compatible client that supports custom MCP servers. This setup isn’t available directly in the standard Claude or ChatGPT web chat.

Example: Claude Desktop

The following steps use Claude Desktop as an example. The setup process may differ for other compatible clients.

Before you begin, make sure you meet these requirements:

  • WordPress 6.9 or later on your website.
  • Node.js 18 or later installed on the machine running your MCP client. Download Node.js.

Step 1: Install the MCP Adapter

On your website, install the official WordPress MCP Adapter plugin.

Step 2: Create an Application Password

  1. In your WordPress admin dashboard, go to Users → Profile, or edit the dedicated user account you want to use.
  2. Scroll down to Application Passwords.
  3. Enter a name, such as Claude Desktop, and click Add New Application Password.
  4. Copy the generated password. It’s shown only once; spaces in the password are fine.

Step 3: Add your WordPress site to Claude Desktop

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config and add an MCP server entry like the following, replacing the example values with your own:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "My Website": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@automattic/mcp-wordpress-remote@latest"],
      "env": {
        "WP_API_URL": "https://yoursite.com/wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server",
        "WP_API_USERNAME": "your-username",
        "WP_API_PASSWORD": "xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx"
      }
    }
  }
}

Save the configuration and restart or reload the MCP connection if needed.

Step 4: Test the connection

Start a new conversation in Claude Desktop and ask:

List the WordPress abilities you can use on my site.

If everything is configured correctly, you should see the LinkCentral tools for managing links, categories, and insights.

If the connection works but LinkCentral tools are missing, check that LinkCentral is active, your WordPress version meets the requirements, and the MCP Adapter is configured correctly.
